What Happens During a Korean Lash Lift Appointment?

You've probably seen the photos, someone's lashes looking dark, curled and full without a single lash extension in sight, and wondered how that happens without any glue or fibres involved. That's usually a Korean lash lift, and once you know what actually goes on during the appointment, it stops feeling like a mystery and starts making a lot of sense.

What Is a Korean Lash Lift, Really?

A lash lift works with the lashes you already have. Instead of adding anything to them, it curls and lifts your natural lashes from the root, so they sit up and out rather than pointing down or straight ahead. The Korean style refers to the technique using a softer, more flexible silicone shield rather than the firmer rod used in older style lifts.

That softer shield tends to create a rounder, more natural looking curl, and it suits a wider range of eye shapes. It's become one of the most requested treatments here at Central Clinic in Wanaka, and for good reason.

Cleansing and Choosing Your Shield

Every appointment starts with a proper cleanse. Your lashes need to be completely free of oil, mascara and makeup residue, or the lifting solution won't take evenly. Once they're clean, I'll pick a shield size based on the natural length of your lashes and the amount of lift and curl you're after.

This step matters more than people realise. Choosing the right size shield is the difference between a soft, natural curl and something that looks overdone.

Lifting Your Lashes Into Position

Next, your lashes are carefully brushed up and secured onto the shield in that lifted position, using a gentle lash safe adhesive. This is the part that shapes your finished result, so I take my time getting each lash sitting where it needs to be before moving on to the solutions.

The Lifting and Setting Solutions

Two solutions go on in sequence. The first softens the structure of the lash so it can take on a new shape. The second locks that new curl into place. Both are left on for a set amount of time, and this is the easiest part of the appointment for you. You just lie back with your eyes closed while it works.

Removing the Shield and Finishing Up

Once the setting solution has done its job, the shield comes off and your lashes are gently released into their new lifted shape. Depending on what you're after, I might finish with a nourishing lash treatment or a tint to add a bit more definition.

And that's it. No extensions, no daily curling, just your own lashes looking like they're already doing the work.
