Ask About Their Training, Not Just Their Instagram

Instagram is where most of us find our artist these days, and that's fine as a starting point. But pretty photos don't tell you much about hygiene, experience, or how someone handles a face that doesn't fit the mould.

Ask how long they've been doing the specific treatment you want, and whether they keep training as techniques change. Brow tattooing and lash extensions are completely different skill sets, and someone can be excellent at one and only average at the other. A good artist won't mind you asking.

Look for Before and After Photos on Real Clients

Anyone can post one perfect result. What you actually want to see is a range, different face shapes, eye shapes, and skin tones. That range tells you whether an artist adapts their work to the person in front of them or repeats the same shape every time regardless of who's in the chair.

Results matter, but so does how you felt in the chair. Look for mentions of feeling relaxed, listened to, and comfortable asking questions along the way, not just how the finished brows or lashes look in a photo.
